Somebody will be right along to help ya.
...All ya need to do is be older than dirt, with bad joints, and an itchy trigger finger for the single action days of yesteryear.

Coltman,
Popular shotguns for CAS are side by side double barrels (Stoegers, Baikals), pumps (Win 97's and clones), and lever actions (Win 87's and clones). Some of the doubles have exposed hammers and some do not, and some exposed hammers are just for decoration.
I have a Baikal, but have had some problems with it and think a Stoeger might be a better choice. I also have a Norinco Win 97 clone which I am also not thrilled with. Based on my experience, I would recommend a Stoeger if you prefer a double, a genuine Winchester 97 if you prefer a pump, or a genuine Win 87 if you prefer a lever action. The Winchesters are out of production, but still can be found in the classifieds at various CAS websites.
Regarding the leather, I would recommend a double rig by Kirkpatrick Leather. I have the Long Hunter model. I have had some other rigs, but this one is superior. By using a double rig rather than a rig with a cross draw holster, you eliminate having to do the "cross draw shuffle", which makes for a safer situation. Kirkpatrick products may be purchased from Kirkpatrick Leather www.kirkpatrickleather.com or from Long Hunter Shooting Supply www.longhunt.com.

John, thanks for the input! I was kinda looking at the Rem. Spartan and the Stoeger sxs. Looks like the Stoeger should win out.
On the leather rig, does it make a difference if it is cross draw or not? I thought, lookin' at the rules, that the Classic Cowboy needed to have a crossdraw rig?? Please point me in the right direction, I only want to buy it once... at least for a while or so!!
I appreciate the kind help and the links. _________________ These guns, they're not my own... |
